Zambians are an interesting lot. A bunch of Chinese guys are appointed as police reserves and they erupt with outrage, prompting a reversal of the decision. A cute cop has …
I found myself laughing in disbelief when I heard that the African Union has issued a statement through its chair Mr Alpha Conde condemning the “illegal” grabbing of power by the Zimbabwean army. The AU is one of the most useless organizations in the world, together with SADC and the UN. I do not even know why they exist.
Ba opposition, honestly how do you allow government officials treat us like we are a bunch of fools with their useless explanations on the million Dollar fire trucks and quarter million ambulances? Spare parts and a brand new vehicle over a period of 5 years plus training amounts to $288,000 each?
A study has shown that in Sub-Saharan Africa, for every kilometer of road rehabilitated, an estimated three kilometers of roads fall into disrepair, leading to a net deterioration in the total road network. The current obsession with building brand new roads at the expense of maintaining old ones will come to haunt this country about 15 years from now.
Are we being told that in the entire chain starting from the fire department, through the Finance Ministry up to the commissioning by the Vice-President Inonge Wina, not a single person thought to say, “Hang on a minute. Where are all these trucks going to be placed in Zambia?”
If we can spend K2 million to get public submissions on something as inconsequential as leaving the International Criminal Court, why couldn’t we spend on public submissions on solving the fire problem? We have many brilliant Zambians who would gladly contribute and we can get better outcomes than always reacting to fires at great cost when simple solutions exist.
